A new, state of the art research facility has been established at S-VYASA University campus through a developmental grant received from the Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka.
August 17 2014, was an historical day for S-VYASA University. The Anvesana Research laboratories was inaugurated by Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Honorable Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India. It was attended by Vice chancellors from Other Universities, Academicians, and Researchers from premier medical and AYUSH institutions, Yoga practitioners, Government officials, and well-wishers of S-VYASA University as well as members from media and press.
Hon. Minister declared the laboratories open by un-knotting a flower garland in the entrance (which is a traditional Indian way) and lighting the lamp. All other dignitaries also participated in this auspicious ceremony.

In order to integrate research facilities of different disciplines, the laboratories are housed within one building called Anvesana, but spread across three floors amounting to an area of 18,000 sqfts.
Dr. Manjunath Sharma, Joint Director – R & D, S-VYASA gave an overview of the facilities. He elaborated on the Vision of Anvesana which emphasizes the use of cutting edge technology in scientific research to explore ancient Indian medical systems and to create evidence so as to mainstream AYUSH systems in disease prevention and management.The five major laboratories viz., Molecular Biology (including biochemistry and genomics lab), Psychophysiology (including Exercise physiology and Sleep lab), Cognitive Neuroscience, Psychology and Bio-energy developed newly were the center of attraction for all the Dignitaries as well as invited guests.
Dr. Ramesh Mavathur, Head, Molecular Biology, explained the need for generating evidence at a cellular level while demonstrating most advanced instrumentation available at the Genomics lab.
Hon. Minister tried exploring some of the equipments in the psychophysiology as well as cognitive neuroscience lab and congratulated all scientists at anvesana for setting up the first of its kind, state of the art facilities for Yoga research. Shri Sivasailam N, the Principle Secretary, Ministry of H & FW, Govt. of Karnataka, as well as Shri Vijay Kumar Gogi, Director, Department of AYUSH, Govt. of Karnataka expressed their happiness and gratitude for being instrumental in establishing these laboratories through the developmental grant from the Government of Karnataka. Mr. Anurag Bagaria, the Chairman, Kemwel group expressed his desire to support S-VYASA research in future as well, as they have been doing it for more than two decades now.
The stage program at the Mangala Mandir Auditorium started with traditional welcome address by the Hon. Vice-Chancellor of S-VYASA University, Dr. Ramachandra G Bhat. Dr. H R Nagendra, Chancellor, S-VYASA gave the Introductory Remarks. He explained about the Vision and Mission of S-VYASA research. He also emphasized on the need for high quality research in AYUSH systems as well as publications in high impact international peer reviewed indexed journals. The booklet ‘Anvesana Research Laboratories’ was released and the new webpage of the Laboratories was launched by Dr. Harsh Vardhan. A brief overview about the new facility including the unique features as well as the scope was given by Dr. Manjunath N K, Joint Director (Research), S-VYASA University. He also highlighted the milestones achieved and the recognitions received by S-VYASA. Dr. Nagarathna, Director (Research), gave an overview of S-VYASA’s clinical research and stressed upon the need for integrative medicine and associated research. She also emphasized on the role of AYUSH systems in preventive health care. Shri Anurag Bagaria, spoke about the corporate social responsibility in promoting Education and Research in India. Being a well-wisher of VYASA for more than twenty years, he re-collected how his family got benefitted and attracted towards VYASA because of its strengths as a unique holistic health center. The chief guest, Dr. Harsh Vardhanji addressed the gathering with his inspiring words. He mentioned ‘This is the time for out-of-the box solutions to India’s health care problems and institutions like S-VYASA will be at the forefront,”The minister said the country lacks evidence-based research and assured that the Centre would support such activities. He thanked the Karnataka government for releasing grants for the research laboratories at S-VYASA and said institutions like NIMHANS in collaboration with S-VYASA must popularize yoga and the AYUSH systems.
The special invitees Shri Sivasailam N, IAS, Principal Secretary, Dept. of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Karnataka and Shri Vijay Kumar Gogi, IFS, Director, Dept. of AYUSH, Govt. of Karnataka, graced the occasion. Prof. K Subramanyam, Dean of Yoga and Humanities, S-VYASA, delivered the vote of thanks in his own humorous way to conclude the function in a picture perfect manner.
