Dr. Vijaya Majumdar
Dr Vijaya Majumdar obtained her PhD in Neurochemistry from National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Bangalore India. Over the years of her research experience in NIMHANS, she has developed a deep understanding of research aspects of basic and clinical neuroscience. As a researcher Dr. Majumdar has attained expertise in molecular biology, gene expression studies and mammalian cell culture techniques. She has contributed significantly to the dissection of genetic etiology of the most prevalent cardiovascular diseases and risk factors like Type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome and ischemic stroke in South Indian population. Currently, Dr. Majumdar is working as an Associate Professor at Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana, Bangalore, India, actively engaged in teaching, and research.
Awards and Honors
Dr. Majumdar obtained BHU medal for securing 1st rank in her Master’s in Biotechnology from Banaras Hindu University. She was awarded with DBT-Bio CARE grant in 2013. Recently, in 2019 she received one more grant from DST-Cognitive Research Initiative. She qualified CSIR-NET-2003 as well GATE-2003 (99.3 percentile) with 24th rank all over India. Dr. Majumdar’s research has been published in numerous international journals of merit including nature publications (cumulative score of Impact Factor 50). She has presented orally her work at International levels as well.
Dr. Majumdar’s primary research interest lies in establishing the role of yoga in human system’s biology with respect to the process of aging. Currently, she is involved in research related to longevity (healthy aging) and other parallel health related aspects of Yoga. Her work also involves the exploring the plausible peripheral molecular links that could relate the influence of yoga as a systemic anti-ageing strategy, along with the neurodegenerative effects. She is also exploring the mechanistic links between important molecules in cognition using cell models.
